Our story began in 1976 with Dr. Åke Hörnell, a pioneer in the development of the auto-darkening welding helmet. His groundbreaking innovation not only introduced the commercial use of LCD technology but also transformed the welder’s workplace by offering superior protection against harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
Dr. Hörnell’s auto-darkening filter, which instantly darkens the moment the arc is struck, enabled welders to maintain a clear view of their workpiece without the need for constant visor adjustments. This innovation not only improved safety but also boosted productivity, reducing downtime and increasing profitability for employers. The helmet’s global success, with millions of units sold, became a symbol of improved working conditions, and in 1996, Dr. Hörnell was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor by Chalmers University of Technology in recognition of his contribution.
